I’m asking for SSI-FWTS reasons. The regulation says you cannot earn more than one per deployment, but what if a soldier who finished his deployment with his home unit did an in-theatre extension and fell in with a new unit? Would he qualify for another SSI-FWTS provided he meets the other criteria for it? Or is it considered one deployment? And with that would he be entitled to R&R?

So we had a guy in 2009 that was on a WIAS task from 1 CAV. He originally arrived under a NG unit and then we RIPd in 6 months later. He concluded the year having served half his time with the 34ID and the other half with 1ID.
He wears the 1ID SSI-FWTS only (maybe he could have chosen 34ID instead, the reg isnt really clear in this event). The intent of the rule is to make some sense out of craziness that happened post 2003 when people could argue that they can wear 1 CAV, 34 ID, 1ID, and dont forget that our BDE was under the USMC for 60 days as III Corps ripped in during the surge so throw in 2 MARDIV as well....oh and now III Corps.

I don’t really have an answer for the SSI-FWTS portion of the question but will comment on if you’re extending to get a “cooler” unit patch on your right sleeve or jacket pocket then you’re in it for the wrong reason. I do have a link for you to research the R&R question. Not sure if you’re in CENTCOM AOR but this should be a good starting point: https://www.cpms.osd.mil/expeditionary/pdf/arcent%20rr%20sop%20final%20-%20jan%20%2011.pdf
Paragraph 5, Appendix B: Service Members who voluntarily extend for 12 months subsequent to a 12 month or longer rotation are permitted an additional 15 day R&R leave between the end of the first deployed period and the start of the subsequent 12 month tour. The Service Member is also authorized a third R&R leave during the 12 month extension. This third R&R leave period may not begin until after the first 60 days of the start date of the second set of orders. (Example: During the first 12 month tour, Service Member is authorized one 15 day R&R leave. Service Member extends for 12 months and is authorized a second 15 day R&R leave period between the termination of the first order and the start date of the second order. Additionally, the Service Member is authorized a third 15 day R&R leave period during the subsequent 12 month tour). The R&R leave periods under this authorization cannot be combined into any combination of more than 15 chargeable leave days for each R&R leave (If 1st or 2nd R&R leave period is not taken during the prescribed time, they are forfeited).
Hopefully your leadership is also involved as they’ll be without you for 12 months. Good luck!

I’m asking due to an ITE Soldier we received. I want to make sure he’s entitled to what he’s entitled to.
