For my second deployment to Iraq, we had a (unauthorized, of course) Platoon guidon made that stayed with the Platoon Sergeant/LT. As the deployment went on, the crew of my vehicle declared ourselves the 'black sheep' of the Platoon and one day I spotted the skull from a ram. Somehow... for some reason... it soon graced the grille of the vehicle.
