I'm just trying to get any information on Fort Bliss. I'm arriving as a 12T later this year (Prior ANG to Active Army) and I'm assigned to Bliss. What is the day in the life of a 12T at Bliss? Also, what is the housing situation like (is it better to live on or off post; where off post would it be best to live at, etc.)?

Hey brother, one of my good friends is one of two 12T’s in my battalion. He has been in the S3 shop for the last 3-4 years, there are no MTOE slots down on the line. The other 12T2O was the schools NCO for the entire duration of his time at Bliss. While this is only an example from one BDE, I hope you are able to actually do your job upon your arrival. Not exactly an optimistic comment, but I hope it give some perspective.

Hey, I appreciate SGT! Any perspective on the location is more than appreciated; it sounds like the 16th BEB is going to be pretty intense in regards to NTC; but, other than that it sounds pretty chill. I'm definitely hoping to get some PME and college stuff out of the way, and this sounds like a great opportunity for that.

Christopher, it has been many years since I was stationed at Ft Bliss as a matter of fact I ETS'd from there back in 1992 so places to live, I can say this if you have the opportunity to live on base then do it, there are many downfalls to living on base however, I do believe they will outweigh the issues that are probably pretty prevalent with many gangs etc.. in the city now, there were issues back in 1984 when I first reported there and I am sure things have only gotten worse with the whole attempt to crack down on illegals. Also if this is your first time at Ft Bliss they have made it a small city and you truly do not have to leave base unless you are going to say the Carlsbad Caverns or to Ruidoso to go skiing, there is much to do in and around Ft Bliss though so enjoy your time there.

Fort Bliss as a post is a lot better than before I actually love it while I was there for over a year and trying to get back. I cannot help you with the 12T side of it. But housing is actually pretty nice especially if you have kids but the schools are better off post. Certain parts of El paso are really bad so be careful and mindful of your surroundings around el paso. Fort Bliss the Army has put a lot of money into the past couple of years only grip is the ranges are 45 mins away in new mexico and even longer if you have to drive military vehicle since they aren't allowed on the highway to the ranges.
