Just finished my MSIII year and want to go active duty MP. How competitive is it to get into this branch? I know my GPA is good. My PT is above average, but I wouldn't say great. Is there a demand for more MP officers right now?

Why do you want to be an MP over another branch?
If the work of the MP's appeals to you then its a good branch to get into. However, if your goal is more long term and you want to go into civilian law enforcement after your Army career, and you figure that being an MP will help your chances, then you might be making a mistake.
Generally speaking, most civilian LE agencies don't care what you did in the military. Showing that you were an Army officer on a resume is a huge plus to getting hired by a civilian LE organization. However, there is such a huge difference between military law enforcement and civilian law enforcement, and being an MP is much more than just LE duties, that being an MP doesn't give you any advantage over someone else with non-MP experience. Your biggest plus as a potential LE candidate will be your military Officer experience.
Good luck in your future officer career.

Seen cases where being a MP is actually a hinderance. You're coming to them jaded with what the MOS has taught you, and in civilian LEO, some of it doesn't work the same, so you work harder to break old habits. I thought that was BS until a few buddies told me (back in the 90's), many would rather have grunts than MP's. At least one is "clueless" and can be molded. The other thinks they know it all. If I did just my initial time, I would've gone civilian LEO. Make rank AD and do it after big years in.....not so sure anymore.

I was in the MP's and was a Deputy Sheriff for Los Angeles County.. I have to agree that most LE agencies don't care much about your MOS. It's the basic military tactical training; i.e. cover and concealment, movement to contact, familiarity with use and care of firearms, etc., along with leadership and teaching skills that will be of the most interest.

It is fairly easy to get MP, it’s a middle of the road Branch but you do have to work hard at getting in the top middle third or bottom top third in your MS class at your Battalion. Of course, many cadets like MP, and they believe it is a stepping stone to an OGA especially the FBI. Usually though it helps you either become a local/State police officer, TSA, or corr cations officer. So make sure it is something you really want and it is for the right reasons. Pick MP as #1 on your list and if you have a middle road file you should duel ADSO to sweeten your chances. Branch detail would be a potential option, if you can accept those four branch choices, and would select IN or FA as a bonus-but BD isn’t something you should do unless you need the bump.
Your PMS has last years accession #s that has the oml ranges for MP and they can let you know what you can do to get what your heart desires!! Or tell you the true path hazards :)

ROTC does a fairly food job of getting people what they want.
That said, MP was my third choice behind Engineer and Armor.
It worked out for me though.
