Has anyone gotten out of the Army for a "convenience of the government" discharge to enlist in the National Guard? I feel like that should be an option.

Not me personally but it sound like it might be a good deal to some. I know I'd take it .

It would be one option to shift personnel who wish to stay in but get off active duty status. With that the D.o.D salary budgets would go down and the amount of troops to pull from would still be high enough should something kick off. I agree with you, I didn't even stop to think of the possibilities of this.

If they don't need you on Active Duty but need you in the National Guard - you should follow your opportunities.
