Some of this is just complaining and I will own that. When planning for a training event focused on CBRN tasks, I was given the 2017 list of common tasks right off ATN (Army Training Network). I don't get some of the choices made.

1.Why was first aid for Nerve Agent Injury not included.
2. One of the graded sub-tasks for React to Chemical/Biological attack is: Conducted personal hydration while wearing their assigned protective mask IAW common task 031-COM-1012. Yet, this sub-task is not part of the 2017 task list. Why?
3. Use M8/M9 paper used to be one task, now it is divided into separate tasks. OK, fine. I don't know that was really needed, but I can roll with it.

I have not really dived very deep into the other common skills, but I wonder how many similar things there are in the other areas.

Anyone know if TRADOC has a "suggestion box" that can be used to make suggestions on how we train?

There will be a POC listing in the common tasks manual that has an address for comments and recommendations.

I wonder a lot with you, where's the logic, in anything the military does. And that's the issue, we are not a logical group. For some reason, the MDMP has omitted common sense and logic from it's efforts. Often choosing the hard way over the easy way, when the easy way has no consequences.
Perhaps Nerve Agent first aid is involved in a medical task?
Utilize a hydration source with pro mask?? That's a testable task? That's ridiculous. That should just be done, so should "eat breakfast" be a task?
Utilize both types of paper should be the same task.

I'm guessing that, like many MANY decisions, it involves some officer wanting an OER bullet or needed to make some large change to get a Star. I believe that is the big issue these days, too many people (more so Officers than Enlisted) only see their next promotion or evaluation and do everything they can to do it, instead of just commanding an effective force. Too much ME and not enough US.
