I’m being considered for a NCOIC spot for MPI, however, I’ve been talking to branch about going to recruiter or drill. I would love to go drill but branch recommended recruiter because they are hurting for more, plus I haven’t found anything about a drill packet either.

Any advice on where to go? I’m considering recruiter but I’m not sure so any advice would help!

Never being a Recruiter - DRILL!!! At least you don't have to stress about numbers - just other worries. But you are out and about every day. Drill Sergeant is much more rewarding because you get to see the finished product.

DRILL!!! Sorry didn't mean to yell, but it shouldn't be a hard decision. Do you wanna sit behind a desk for 3 years being talked down to because you cant force kids to remain committed to there enlistment, or do you wanna impact your corp at the lowest level and train your future Soldiers? Yes drill is rough, yes you work long hours sometimes, and yes you don't make as much as recruiters do, but I can almost guarantee you will make SFC on your first look if you have NCOER's reflecting successful drill sergeant time. Plus, if you go to FLW all your MOS based schools are there, and most units will allow you to attend NCOES towards the end of your trail time.

Thank you SFC Free, that's great input. Drill is my first pick over anything so I will go that route. The concern from branch is that I have just one year squad leader time and he thinks that when my packet goes up, CSM will be less inclined to approve it because he would want more squad leader time prior to going to the trail. Branch also said that there is no formal volunteer packet anymore for it so they recommended I call the schools branch to see about a DA select spot so I'm doing that Monday.

It’s better to try and fail as opposed to never trying at all. I was only an E-5 promotable when I hit the trail and only a little over a year as a squad leader. As long as your NCOER’s are solid and you seek every opportunity to improve yourself and seek opportunity your gonna be golden. I did my three years on the trail and got picked up on my first look.
