What are my chances of re-enlisting in the NAVY with an RE-8 code?

I was recently medically discharged from Navy basic training with an RE-8 code for having knee pain in basic training when running. Basically I want to know how the re-enlistment process works, my chances of getting back in, basically just redpill me on this. I really enjoyed my time there, and was looking forward to my navy career. I was supposed to be an AECF... :(

It depends on whether or not the condition behind the medical discharge was considered a permanent one. My Nephew received a medical from the Marines after he broke his leg during boot camp. He too was looking forward to a career with the military. He was told that as long as he waited a year and was medically cleared he could reenlist.

It was a temporary pain, I have already recovered and I’m running with no pain at all. I’m surprised everything worked out so well for your nephew, because from what I heard waivers are hard to come by, especially medical ones because I’ve been told considering the fact that the Navy is so selective when it comes to past medical conditions, why would the navy want someone back knowing they have had prior problems?

I’d say talk to a recruiter and see about getting a waiver. If there’s no pain you may just need a doctor to examine you before they’ll give it but it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. But as I said talk to recruiters they know most about this stuff.

Get the medical issue with your knee(s) resolves by your civilian doctor and then you can attempt to enlist. Depending on diagnosis and treatment, you may be able to get in.
