Just curious, is there a way to match transitioning veterans with a mentor who has completed the process?

There is an informal one on linkedin I found: https://www.linkedin.com/groupRegistration?gid=4466143&csrfToken=ajax%3A [login to see] 03005925&trk=groups_about-h-join&goback=.anb_4466143_*2_*1_*1_*1_*1_*1
There is the ACP - American Corporate Partners - http://www.acp-usa.org/about-acp
And here is the Military.com one: http://benefits.military.com/vcn/search.do
Don't know anything about them, but my assumption is that nothing formal exists. Just seems like this would already exist. (Trying not to be too cynical here.)

It's a solid concept - and that is why there are number of informal networks out there that exist to serve this purpose already, the challenge of having something more central is a daunting one though.
Trying to match the right people up would be a mountain of a task at best, and honestly outside of Veterans helping Veterans, it will be very difficult to generate any business interest in it. I could see a coalition of Veteran-Friendly companies getting together to have a place for Veterans to go and request mentors through the company's military employee resource groups, but to me, that would be the only plausible route that would bear any real fruit.
It all comes down to who can create a business case for something like that, that in turn would provide companies with a talent pipeline for them that would also drive down the cost per hire.

Jorge, thank you for the response. Interesting thing to me is the mental models we both used in contemplating this: you went to a business model and evaluated its potential merits; I went to the brute force Army model.
AKA - We send vetrans checks all the time. Those veteran's file tax returns. It would be very easy if you had access to the data to correlate transitioned veterans with their industries based off their tax returns and - voila - instant list of veterans in a particular industry. From there it becomes a simple problem of looking people up. And yes, I'm not really concerned with that pesky privacy stuff.
