How should you appropriately wear miniature medals if they extend over the lapel?

I am planning on wearing mini medals to the USMC ball in a tuxedo. However, I have several and they will extend over the lapel. Can anyone advise how to appropriately wear them? The Marine Corps order regarding the wearing of miniature medals in civilian attire is below.
Miniature medals may be worn on the left lapel of the civilian
evening coat on ceremonial occasions, but only when strictly appropriate to
the occasion. On the full dress and tuxedo coats, miniatures will be worn
centered on the wearer's left lapel, placed horizontally and one inch below
the end of the collar gorge. The top edge of the holding bar will completely
cover the buttonhole. If current styles preclude wearing on the lapel,
miniatures will be placed in the same relative position as if there was a
lapel.

Since it's a Marine Corps Ball, wearing them IAW USMC regs will pass muster with nearly all present. I doubt any Marines carry USAF uniform regs around in their hip pocket.

Once you are retired, does it matter which branch's regulation applies? You are retired. So, none of them apply; or do they?

I've worn miniatures to the Ball on my tux. Since I am an Army veteran I wear them according to Army guidelines for wear. I see from your info that you are a member of the Air Force Reserve. As such wear your decorations in accordance with the AFR governing the wear of minis on civilian attire.

Thanks for the reply. I am going off USMC regs because I am attending as a former Marine. I am also transferring back to the USMC after the USAFR turned out to be a disastrous experiment.

Son until you have signed papers in hand transferring branches, I strongly you follow the regs of the service you are currently in, Check the regs, medals, mini medals are worn just like the ribbons, same order of precedence, layered 3 or maybe 4 to the bar.
