Bio
Initially it seemed like two distinct tracks: combat engineering and facilities management, but I soon realized that much of the obstacle and barrier world of combat engineering applied to physical security on the facilities side and a lot of the material management on the facilities side applied to success on the combat side. I was fortunate to turn that into a satisfying second career.
'78-'81 completed all course work for a Ph.D. in Management Science at UCLA. However, their demands for dissertation progress proved incompatible with being a student at Marine Corps Command & Staff College and single-parenting three children ages 11, 9, and 2

Facility Maintenance Officer
Headed up 750+ (predominantly civilian) personnel responsible for all base facilities including power distribution, potable water supply, and sewage treatment. At that time we had over 5,000 buildings and structures, about 95 sq miles of land, and a work-aboard population of 35,000 -- live aboard of about 22,000.

Assistant to the DC/S, Facilities. Major evolutions with leaking underground storage tanks (800+) dating back to 1942, and other environmental issues. Coordination with subordinate units: Facility Maintenance Department, Base Fire Department, Natural Resources Office, Bachelor Housing Office, and family Housing Office.
