<p>So here's a little backgroud. I have a civlian staff member who is also a reserve soldier. His unit has planned a 30 day AT this year, in addtion 10 of 12 drills being MUTA 5 or 6s. </p><p> </p><p>I have not been in the reserves for years, and a 30 day AT is new to me. Has anyone else seen something simliar?</p>

Yes. They take two FYs ATs and merge them together for a CTC rotation. That may explain the heavy MUTA schedule. They only get to go may be once every 5 years or so.
I saw this with a ARNG BCT I advised in Either AR or OK. My brother in laws reserve unit also did this at JRTC.

I was in 1974 to 1996. No 30 day annual training that I can remember. State probably didn't want to foot the bill for that.
I'd like to see a thirty day AT every couple of years. Sometimes two weeks just isn't enough time to accomplish anything except setting up and tearing down. Especially Spec Ops units that go overseas or that have intensive training requirements that would benefit from more than 2 weeks training.
