I'd like to hear from those of you who have a "V" after their name on this one. Who do you think are the most veteran-friendly employers? I know G.I. Jobs produces a list each year, but let's take our own internal RallyPoint poll and hear your responses!

I think in order to answer this question more effectively, having a definition of what makes a company "veteran-friendly" would help. Is it enough to say "We hire Veterans"? What if ABC Company hires Veterans at a good rate but doesn't allow that Veteran the time he/she needs to attend their appointments at the VA? What if XYZ Company hires a bunch of Veterans but only for the lowest level of job within the company as possible keeping the Veteran from achieving his/her greatest potential.
With more and more companies jumping on the PR band wagon of "supporting troops"; I think it is important that we, their target audience, really pays attention to what they are doing compared to what they are saying. Actions will always speak louder than words and how we determine what company is truly "veteran friendly" needs to be driven on more than what company shows the most ads or hires the most Veterans. We are unlike most of our civilian counterparts, we have needs that most people do not nor understand. The ability for the company to handle those needs and set up the Veteran for the best possible transition is how I would measure their veteran-friendliness.

Ben, you're right on target! That's one of the reasons I'm soliciting feedback from the veterans who are on this feed. I know I'll get the real story from you all.
Thanks for your contribution.

I think you are right in the fact that by soliciting feedback rom the veterans here that you will get input. I just hope that Veterans see this as a way to be helpful rather than a chance to complain about something that may have happened. Sure it sucks when bad stuff happens but the more you complain the less time you have to change the situation.

I don't have Stats; but SAIC and Booz Allen Hamilton seem to be the heavy hitters around here and most of their people that I talk to love working for them. I have never been a contractor and can't speak from personal experience.

I have, and will strongly recommend Booz Allen Hamilton. They're the best employer I have had in almost 14 years.
