**WARNING** Footage of war, gun shots - may trigger flashbacks for some of you.
"The Present Trauma," an intense short film (3 mins) that won the Project Greenlight Top 20 fan vote, depicts the struggles of a young combat veteran coping with the loss of a battle buddy and trying to reconnect with his wife and son back home.
This film is a valuable glimpse for our non-military friends/family into the lives of military families and the challenges they face. This is who we serve at Project Sanctuary.
I'd like to hear your "review" of this short film...authenticity? accuracy?

Very intense! A bit over the top - more Hollywood than main street. It does paint an emotionally accurate picture though of the unexplained mood swings, depression and family issues that many have gone through. Thanks Sir for posting this!

MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca, yeah, there's definitely some Hollywood in there, but it does bring awareness and understanding to what so many service members have experienced. Thanks for the comments.

LTC Jason Strickland, raw emotion is the toughest thing to capture and encapsulate because each of us is so different in our expression. I had fits of rage followed by bouts of crying and depression. I never got to the point of wanting to permanently end it, but the thoughts were there. I had the loving support of my family and things never got close to the point where we were separated. The film does a great job of trying to capture the essence of the "every service member" composite character and that is what is most important, IMHO, so that we can each relate in our own way.

Maj Robert Petrarca, I don't think it's over the top at all. I think we need to do whatever it takes to save the lives of those who served and the family who supports them. I think a lot of nonmilitary folks don't truly understand PTSD, and how it affects the whole member's family.

I think it's great. It really hits home having lost a close friend and coworker to PTSD. And he reached out to the military many times on his post deployment health questionnaire, and they ignored him. I think we need more things like this to raise awareness and do whatever it takes to stop losing our heroes to PTSD. As an active duty medic, it saddens me greatly to see the great heroes who sacrificed so much to lose hope and take their life.
