Rally Point,
I am in the process of getting this up and running. It will be a blend of the community project that Manordev.com has in Cave Junction, OR and the warriorsthatfarm.com program in Texas. What I am looking for is support, suggestions, and ideas to keep this project on track for a timely completion. Your input, critiques, and suggestions are welcome.

I'll have to keep you guys in mind. We're working to create a place on the Kenai Peninsula to do some similar things. Hoping to break ground this coming summer of 2015.

TSgt Phillip L.,
How are you doing with fund-raising?
I'm still working the bylaws to file the 1023 so we can start the grant writing and other fund-raising for the initial project. Probably looking at $250k just for the land right now. I'm also working with some people to price out the facility and structures for stages 1, 2, and 3.

I filed our 1023 a couple of months ago, still waiting on the IRS for a formal response. We've been incorporated for over a year, operating as a non-profit under the 27 month rule. We're in negotiations for a 50+ acre property right now. We have a couple contributors, but 85% of our organizations funding comes from my pocket. Once the 501c3 certificate arrives, we're planning to get plugged in with the CFC, and a few other nonprofit listings. We have a business model however, and the ultimate goal is to build up a revenue generating organization that is self supported. In this new era of diminishing tax benefits for non-profits, its important that organizations plan towards self sustainment. We won't be opposed to grants...but I'm always wary of the strings attached.

Ok I was a little confused after reading your face book page. Are you trying to teach just farming skills?

ManorDev set up with an emphasis on security and law enforcement training. They are currently working on a project that ties into Drone piloting and research. Their programs are good. I was looking at options that didn't put people back into situations they may prefer to avoid.
Thank you for bringing the "farm centric" appearance to the facebook page to my attention. I'll try to broaden the appeal some.
Agriculture is one consideration with some onsite greenhouses and farm plots. There is also a lot of agriculture still in the area for internships or specific training. But I don't want to limit it. The onsite community center could be wired and cooperation with the colleges and universities and some of the tech companies in the area would allow for a variety of options. Remote classes, transportation to any of three or four different college campuses, on-line courses...
I don't want to shoot for something that is too big, but I don't want to limit the possibilities either.
