Just a quick question, does anybody know a quick reliable way to get your DD-214, I've applied for mine at least 4 times with no response. Hell I would pay good money at this point.

The 25 things I was told at every DD-214 update and at retirement was, "Make several copies of your DD-214, put one in a safe deposit box, file one with your city clerk's office, keep a few at home..."

Be very careful to redact SSAN etc from any document recorded at clerk's office.

God help us if someone has to stoop that low to steal my identity. I did mark out my SSN, just in case. Its another location to have the document plus in both cities where I lived you received a tax credit as a veteran which required a copy of your DD-214.

I scanned into the computer and copied all my 201 file and medical reords onto several thumb drives. One I gave to my son for keeping in his big gun safe (he asked me recentlly if I needed to update anything on it).

I use E-Benefits. It's a great source for accessing your benefits. You can download most of what you need there. I have also asked for my DD214 at my VA Office and they have hooked me up. Hope this helps.

e-benefits only took an hour to retrieve all requested documents. however, site was tricky to navigate to access past records.

Now here's something I know a little bit about.
PO2 Terry Lewis, Having the bad luck of my originals being destroyed in a fire and my replacement set destroyed by my wonderful kiddos (don't ask), I've had the opportunity to request and successfully receive replacement DD-214s in a pretty timely manner.
The first time, I used the following site,
http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/
The second time, I located the nearest Department of Veteran Affairs and got replacements through my VA rep.
The second option was much quicker than the first and I got my replacements in less than 1 month.
If Myrtle Creek, OR is where you're living now, I took the liberty of looking up where the nearest Department of Veteran Affairs is to you. Here is the link to that office and the Rep. who can help you.

I wish you the best of luck.
