Customs and courtesies demand it. However, would the WO2 be able to a) remove his hand from his pocket before the WO1 passed him by?, and b) would he spill any of his coffee?

CW4 (Join to see)
Warrant Officers are supposed to be different from Commissioned Officers. I believe that only in ceremony and when a Command Chief is present is it acceptable for warrant officers to salute each other.

CW4 (Join to see) - Yes, they are different. Some hide in plain sight and make like they are working. Some actually do some work. Others hide in SCIF's and thank god every day they don't have to put up with the crap commissioned officers deal with. ;-) And I might add to avoid Abe (LTC G and you know who I mean). LOL Just kidding I love Abe.

Oh, and by the way, Air Farce....it's CW2, not WO2. I really kinda want to kick you right now.

I remember warrant officers as an airmen in the 1980's. They belonged to the USAF. They were fazing out then but it was not easy to tell them apart from a LT. "That LT is awfully old I thought". Until I saw he was a CW4.

1stSgt Jeff Blovat - I actually worked for some old Lieutenants also, all had been prior enlisted and ranged from SSgt to MSgt At one point the unit I was in all of our officers were prior enlisted even our commander whohad been a SSgt with 8 years enlisted service He and another one of those former NCOs, a MSgt who had to get an age waiver to be commissioned) both retired as Full Colonels 06. The others had been SSgt and one TSgt. One thing for sure there was no pulling the wool over the eyes of any of these officers including the old 2Lts and 1Lts

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter, mustang officers were some of the best leaders I served with for that reason. They knew both sides of the street.

Although not on the active duty side, in addition to USAF in the Civil Air Patrol, which is the USAF Auxiliary I was a Warrant Officer , then later a Chief Warrant Officer before becoming a second Lieutenant and up from there in CAP. In the USAF however I went from Airman Basic up to Senior Master Sergeant.

Should a 2LT salute a 1LT. Military protocol says yes to both, if they know each other you will not see this happening
