Need some feedback on whether a soldier should request that an Article 15 she received from 2006 as an E5 will affect her look this year for SFC. It is not a DUI/Drug/SHARP violation.

Should she request it to be moved to her restricted file or is it so long ago that it doesnt matter.

I know you guys already think I know everything so Im basically just trying to confirm what I already think. ;-)

Thanks!

Agree with most here,
Have her request to get it moved to her restricted file.
Currently, boards can only access "in-grade" misconduct in the restricted file.

Chapter 7, AR 600-37 that allow a Soldier to request documents be
transferred from the performance folder to the restricted folder in
their OMPF/AMHRR. I would head to that source and have it transferred. In my opinion, any kind of derogatory actions in a Soldiers file, especially NCOER or OMPF would hinder their ability to attain a higher rank. Right now, with all the downsizing that the military is going through, it is just one more strike against them; even if it was a long time ago. Hope it works out.

I've talked to a trusted senior SGM & personal mentor that sat on numerous centralized selection boards and I was told that the 'Restricted File' is not available to board members...yet.
The Army MAY open this file to board members beginning with the upcoming SFC selection board.
Advice: Yes, try to get the old information moved to the 'Restricted File', just in case the Army does not open this file to board members.
