Heck, start now. At least visit and get some info. We're talking about your life. 18 months is not that long.

I believe the recommendation is 18 months out, but I know that can be Command driven....ACAP/SFL is an excellent program especially for those that are junior. I picked up some good tid-bits but it was more geared for those that have done a enlistment or two...E-7s and above will likely find it less than helpful...but its all what you put into it...the VA briefings are very important and the DOL briefings and exercises were also helpful. I scheduled my ACAP soon after I got my orders...having been through the process especially for those that are senior....the sooner you get started the better....the problem I ran into was I had a few posible jobs that wanted me to start but I couldn't because I was still on active duty.

In my opinion that is not enough time...and I have seen folks push it even closer to ETS...If you have a job or education lined up and you have resources available....spouse works, already have a home, your retirement check and VA Disability is ready to start...then the transition is not so hard...My concern would be for those that are single, dont have a family to help them and don't have a marketable MOS...finding a job under the gun can be very difficult.

MAJ (Join to see) - Sir, that was all the time my previous commands would give people.

I don't doubt it...but Command's don't always have the Soldier's best interest. In many cases it is soley in the hands of the first line supervisor.
