Considering a huge move, is anyone familiar with Travis AFB and the surrounding area?

Am in the running for a professional transfer, so am now also considering a change from Air National Guard, to Air Force Reserves, with Travis AFB, being the targeted base. This is a huge consideration, as am weighing out the benefits of commuting to AL for drills until retirement in Aug of 15, or staying in for a few more years in the AF Reserves and seeing how it plays out....
Does anyone have any insight to the Base, that can be put on a forum (amenities-commissary, PX, Golf Course!, fitness center etc)
Does anyone in this community have any insight to the communities surrounding Fairfield, CA? Looking for a great area, with a commute of (hopefully) under an hour to Oakland.
Any input is appreciated. I feel certain that more than a few of have been through Travis.

I travelled through Travis in 2008. I can't help much with the specifics, but the location was great. Close to San Fran, and the Jelly Belly world headquarters! Interesting fact, base lodging rooms come with little sample size Jelly Belly packs on the pillows instead of mints! The base seemed really nice, but then again, aren't ALL Air Force bases?

SFC Stephen Carden shhhhh the fact that AF Bases are nice is supposed to be a secret. If everyone knew that, we would be flooded with applications! I had heard about the Jelly Belly HQ, that is funny.
Thanks for the input. All I hear is how beautiful that area is.

I have a few friends stationed at Travis. Vacaville seems to be the place to live. I would recommend using http://www.AHRN.com or http://www.Militarybyowner.com
AHRN.com: Automated Housing Referral Network.
Find or post a home on the largest, most trusted global housing network for military communities. Get started!

Col (Join to see) Sir, I will take a look at both of those sites, am unfamiliar with both, as I have not been in PCS mode since the late 80s. Have heard of Vacaville. Thank you

I have personally used AHRN and have rented twice. My landlords were military as well and that mutual understanding greatly aids the process.
