The Education Incentive is a local policy (not a reenlistment option/program) normally for Soldiers who reenlist under Option 2 (Current Station Stabilization) for 3-6 years.

You're not "reenlisting to go to school for 6 months", but based on individual qualifications, you'll get a semester to focus on civilian education. Depending on course load, you may still be required to be at accountability formations, conduct PRT, and participate in other mandatory functions.

Reenlistment options are perishable,
(they change , come and go a lot) and not always available for every MOS, rank location.

All that means, it matters not what we say, but what your commander and local retention NCO says.

In general, there at times has been a reenlistment option that allowed a SM to be on duty status, but said duty location for a period of time was a school of higher education.
commonly you still report for duty at your normal location and then depart for school (PT does not normally interfere with getting to class on time)
I've seen other units tell a SM to just call in or stop by once and awhile (that's a hugely bad idea for the unit and not taking care of the Soldier, nor IAW regulations)

The way i did it, was come in for PT unless you had a specific reason you needed to skip. Big test, off site lab that required travel ..tell your leadership in advance, give a call in the morning so we knew you were alive and ok, stop by after and show your face
