Do you believe that the media has the right to know of secret government operations/talks?

I just heard Wolf Blitzer ask a White House staffer if it is ok for the Administration to lie about Diplomatic Discussions to the media and the American People to protect diplomacy, should our media who lies to us more frequently than even our government be trying to call anyone to the table?
I believe diplomatic relations should be left to diplomats.

Sorry, "Need to know basis". And they don't need to know. OPSEC.
Pretty much unheard of these days.

Agreed, much like this present Administration announcing to the world that "Seal Team 6" took out Bin Laden and as I recall about 3 months later a Chinook Helicopter was shot down killing all 38 onboard including 17- Seal Team 6 members.
"Hey... Joe and Barry...."There is a reason we call them "covert operations".....

Can you imagine anyone coming to the table with us knowing that we would air everything. Unfortunate Necessity. As far as knowing about operations, I worked on Prairie Fire/El Dorado Canyon for Several Months before we Bombed Libya in 86. Hell No and I have no problem employing OPDEC to protect OPSEC.

Every time I hear about the media and the government in the same topic, I start hearing the song Dirty Laundry. One group is as crooked as the other. I understand the Freedom of Information, but there are reasons that some if not all of these meeting or briefings between diplomats are classified. Besides, I haven't seen or heard of one News Organization or Journalist that even knows what true and honest reporting even is. Much less the definition.
