My only concern is of improper influence upon the investigator. There are folks who are heavily invested in Berghdahl being the victim in all of this. If it comes out that he deserted, it would reflect VERY badly on them.

I think there is a desire to see SGT Berghdahl as a victim, but based on what happened prior to his captivity and the fact that 6 soldiers were lost searching for him, I feel we have to be impartial at this point in time.
This is where I have a huge issue with the media. I feel that in many cases they are biased in that they paint the portrait that they all want us to see, often before the facts are in. When this happened the person is already tried and convicted/acquitted in the court of public opinion prior to their actual legal trial.

Again, why I have concerns for undue influence upon the investigating officer. If this 15-6 really intended to find out what happened or is it a show to "prove" claims that he did nothing wrong.

Also a valid point Sir. And I am by no means a legal expert, but can we have a retired person come and investigate an active duty soldier under the auspices of a 15-6?

They could always 'recall' a retired GO to active duty for the specific purpose of heading the 15-6. He or she would have nothing to loose since they would revert back to retired status (with a recalculation of pay) when it was over. Just a thought!

I like MSG Huffman's call on that. It would be best to bring in someone that wants the truth, and a retiree would be the best bet.

Ultimately, they will find he was not fit for the duties prescribed (mentally unfit), his leadership will be reprimanded for not addressing his condition, and 5 Enemy combatants get to eat a home cooked meal and come right back after us. Thie deal had been on the table for at least two years. The names never changed. I actually heard Obama say that we leave no man behind. Where was he on Bengazzi then? You left four behind Mr. President. The media has made an attempt to glamorize the actions of Bergdahl the jihadist. We know for a fact that six of our brotheren were slain trying to recover Bergdahl. I am a firm believer that we should never elect a president that has never served in the military. Now that we have, look at what hesitation has begot us as a nation. And it's not over yet!
