Politicians don't have our best interests at heart, but statesmen do. Americans are naive about politicians' motives for the same reason why they're willing to buy a used car for a lot more than they should from a gouging dealer.

That's actually a fairly complex question, on the one hand I can understand the cynical view certainly. However, in the course of my wife and I having asked for help with various things, interestingly, we've genly found that we've actually been tried to be helped many times, in point of fact. I'm obviously not meaning to be deliberatelynaive, or look through rose colored glass if you will, I'm just saying that, within the psychological limit of needing to restrain how much water you try to draw from their well in seeking their help, most legislators and or their staffs we've found do genuinely at least try that's all I'm trying to say honest.

I agree, Capt Daniel Goodman! However, even those that help you expect something in return. They all have ulterior motives and their main objective is to placate the big money people. You are secondary in their thought process!

There are good men and women serving in our state houses and in the District of Calamity. Sadly, they must buckle under the rule of the political establishment that We the People not only condone but also support.

I think people want to believe they are doing work for the common good. However, I believe, elected officials get to the Capitol or to their respective state, county or other office thinking they are there to do good and immediately on arrival head to the dark side.

Do I think they have my, or our best interests at heart? Absolutely not! They all do not care one bit about their constituents until six months before reelection.

I can provide a case study that proves your point. Spiro Agnew was my professor of torts in law school and president of the PTA at the high school I attended. He was a very good man corrupted by the system that We the People not only condone but also support by electing and reelecting the worst among us.
