Many business professionals use linkedin and other social media sites to network with other professionals outside of their immediate network. Some leaders have started to include their organizations facebook page as a way to build their image in their signature block. Is it time for more people to start adding social media to their signature blocks such as rallypoint and facebook? Please add any tips you can provide as well.

NOOOOOO. Well only if you are is position that would make sense such as Recruiter, Retention, UPAR, or Public Affairs. Otherwise no.

I completely agree with you regarding use of personal social media. My question was more inline with the professional route like you are referring to in the latter portion. So, I like your TTP's for recruiters, retention and public affairs using it. Perhaps it should be encouraged more for them since I harldy see it on their emails.
I am new to RP and I was just intrigued by the link at the top of the RP homepage that gives a shortcut back to your RP profile. I think in the future that social media is becoming more the standard than the exception and leaders need to be able to communicate across that medium as well. So perhaps not today, but soon we will see more leaders use social media as a communication platform.

I agree, as I said in my comment, company social media sites are fine and probably crucial in many positions. Just not your personal account, unless you have created an account that applies solely to your position and is separate from your personal one.

Social media is called social media because it is, well for lack of a better term. socially oriented. There's nothing on my social site - FB that I really would want to share with employees or potential supervisors. Now LinkedIn that's another story, that's designed for professionalism. Just email if you need something - that I'll provide free of charge.

You very much have the right of it. In most cases, social media should NOT be co-mingled with a professional's business life. However, it should not be thought that your professional and private lives are disconnected, no matter how separate you try to keep them on line. There are horror stories of professionals (or potentials) being gigged due to something on their social media profile. There is no such thing as privacy on the Internet.

I will gladly add my RallyPoint profile to my signature block (it allows for people to 'see' who you really are) when I can select my personal URL:
