I heard of a young male getting 110 push ups and sit ups and running close to 11:30 two mile. I don't remember what that was on the extended scale.

The 11:30 is quick, but not fast. I ran with quite a few guys back in the 80s and we were all sub 11s or high 10s. That's just being in shape. We had 2 guys who were rated #1 and #2 in USAEUR in cross-country and both ran upper 8s. Very impressive ... but both were poor in push-ups and sit-ups. Once saw a young lady crank out 135 sit-ups and a huge man (who looked chubby) knock out 140 GOOD push-ups. I'm sure we have several service members across our services who can put all of these numbers to shame. Amazing what great athletes with great desire can accomplish. Doesn't matter if from days gone by or today, there are a lot of men and women with the drive to excel.

All god points SSG Porter. PT tests are merely one of the measuring posts the Army uses to say that a Soldier is "in shape" but is not indicative of an individual's combat capabilities. I would argue that many of our Soldiers, although Soldiers first, are also great athletes in their own right. And at 55, my sprinting for anything is well in my past.

My team leader in Okinawa made the Guinness book of world records for the most sit ups in one minute. I personally did not see it happen. But a copy of his achievement was posted in the Unit Bay. Located at 1st Bn 1st SFG(A).

I had a CW3 who, as a matter of course, would do 100 and stand up with time left, 100 with time left and stand up, and run like 10-11 flat every APFT. He ran marathons for fun.

We didn't have the extended scale back in 1984. Or I should say apparently we did but we never used it. I always did 5 over max on sit-ups and push-ups and ran between 10-10:30. But my PSNCO in Hawaii made me look silly on the run. He always ran below 9 minutes. He was a high school cross country state champion in California. I ran a 10 mile loop with him once and when we finished he did it again. Then he ate a whole large pizza. The guy also maxed push-ups and sit-ups. They tested our body fat at a 10K we ran in Honolulu and he was below 3%, they told him it was dangerous. The guy was a machine!
