I've been trying to break the code on what makes some new questions appear and others not as well as figure out the difference between "new" "recently updated" and "my discussions" in the anwer tab, but I don't think I'm smart enough.

What exactly determines what questions appear on your home page? Is it related to the groups you are in and/or the topics you follow? Is there no universal setting so that any new question/link posed shows up? How about the "new" tab under answers? I'm not sure if that refers to a new question being asked, or a new answer given to an old question. I see a lot of questions I've read before in "new". But if they are there for a new answer, then what's the difference between that and "recently updated"? There are times where I will see a question for the first time in the new tab, but see it is two weeks old and has many answers already, and it wasn't in my new tab earlier.

So overall I'm just confused as to what does or doesn't show up in the various answer tabs and the home page. I'd prefer to be able to see all new questions, whether I follow a particular group/topic or not. Is there a way to do that without having to go to all 100,000 topics and check following? :)

And on the flip side, if I do decide to no longer see a particular topic, is there a way to make them no longer appear? Also, is there a connnection to contacts? Does any topic that a contact posts in also show up in my stuff?

Help a brother out here. I'm confused.

Hi Sir,

You put a lot out here but I'll do my best to answer them all without going down the rabbit hole of explaining each. Any post from in group or from an individual you follow will appear in your feed. Anytime someone contributes to these discussions they will get bumped up in your feed. So, yes the groups/topics and people you follow directly contributes to what you see. The "new" under answers is a chronological view of every question someone has asked on RallyPoint. It sounds like this is the place you're looking for, but please note, this page is just Answers - no updates or links are posted here. Its just a big open forum so if you choose to go there, it won't matter who or what you follow, you see it all. "Recently updated" is the same content but its organized by the most recently updated question (i.e. if someone comments on a discussion from 2 years ago, that is now the most recently updated and appears at the top).

And on the flip side, if you don't want to see a particular topic, click on the three little dots on the bottom right of the discussion and choose "Hide this discussion from my updates."

SSG Carlos Madden - thanks for all the great info. That really helps. I do forget to distinguish between links and questions, since they both seem to end up with discussions, but that explains why I see some in one place and not another. As for contacts, let's say I have a contact that ends up posting a lot of links about a topic I'm not really interested in. Do I have to remove him as a contact to keep all of those links from hitting my home page?

Also, since the answer tabs like recently updated or new or my discussions only pertain to answers, is there a similar way that discussions on links are shown? If a link post receives new comments, does that bump it up on my home page, or are links discussions just not tracked the same way as questions are? Is there no way to follow the discussion on links posts as compared to anwer posts? I didn't see a follow option when I clicked on a link post from my home page.

Frankly, I find the question/link distinction a bit confusing. Most of the links posts generate as much discusson as the questions do, but it appears the mechanisms for following those discussions aren't the same as for answers. Or maybe that's just one more thing I don't know how to do yet.

What appears on your Home feed is a function of many things, but is principally driven by two components: 1) What your contacts engage in and 2) What topics you engage in.

The more you engage with certain topics, and the more quality contacts you have, the more likely that content related to those topics or people will appear in your Home feed.

The algorithm is continuously tweaked and adjusted to create more and more relevant content. It also learns on its own based on your own engagement. For example, if you respond to a certain topic a lot, it will appear more so than topics that you simply view.

Looking forward to seeing this answer. Also, without hijacking, how do I get somone's name to appear/link in a response?
