I am currently serving as a 25S (Satellite Communications specialist), I want to stay in the Army but do not wish to serve in this MOS. This is my first term however my MOS is listed as under strengthed (Y/N). I was told by my retention that my only options are packet MOSs or stay in my current MOS. I need help finding solid options.

Thanks SFC King, I check out Armyreenlistment.com and I haven't found anything that helps to much, basically my issue is my retention tells me my only option at the moment is to reenlist and stay my MOS or get out. Currently I am unhappy with my MOS, my points are high, and I do not enjoy my job any more.

15W and 15E are undermanned as well. (Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator(W) or Maintainer (E)) If you get Gray Eagle (MQ-1C) they even use SATCOM, so you'd have some knowledge of how it works. UAS are the wave of the future, they have skills that translate to the civilian world, fast promotion rates. Join us, won't you?

Honestly Chief I joined the Army to be a 15W, (due to paper work being filed incorrectly) that did not happen. I have been pushing my retention to try to get me into the MOS however they keep telling I cannot due to my MOS being listed as under strengthed, and 15W/E as balanced.

There is no way that 15W/E's are balanced. They are adding shadow companies and gray eagle companies across the Army. Even with numbers holding where they are, they keep adding new positions which in turn causes the manning percentages go to down. Keep fighting, don't take no for an answer. Go up to a recruiter as a "civilian" and ask them what the numbers are. Don't take your retention guy's word.

That is correct due to your MOS being listed as Overstrength, you are limited to 2 options. Regular Army for 2 years of Army Training. Things we look at when counseling soldiers like you is a variety of things but in this case I would look at your line scores, clearance type and screen you for possible packet MOS. These MOS are critical in the Army and also require you to apply according to their specific guidance. Once approved we would send up the request if you are in the reenlistment window. We can go for an hour just talking about how to help you.

SSG, my issue is that I do want to continue to serve however I just do not think I can continue in my current MOS. with that being said I have looked at the packet MOSs and the only jobs that interest me is SF jobs and I tired but i didn't get selected. So now the only options I know of if I am unable to just reenlist for a new MOS is; to move branches, get out, or move to guard/ reserve. But i would like to stay in the Army if i could.

25S is actually a good MOS if you are well at it and it can transition well into the civilian side if you keep getting better at it. With that said, just because the MOS is over strength now does not mean that it can balance out in a few months. Have you thought about doing airborne? I don't have the SRB message with me now but it may have a bonus available if you are willing to go airborne. At that point you are killing a couple birds with one stone. 1. You are setting yourself apart. 2. You may reenlist for a longer period of time than just 2 years.
