I saw you got advice to talk to your S3. I wouldnt do that without a person in your chain. Or you could get squashed.
Keep in mind you aren't the only E5 wanting a deployment. There are thousands that are upset they haven't done anything. I shattered a deployment dream this last weekend at drill.
No deployments suck but it's a true test to see how you are while the climate is "boring."
In the meantime, I would try to go to as many schools as I could.

Agreed with this advice. This is the opportunity for training and schools. When the climate is hot, units don't have time for this novelty. I've seen many soldiers I'll prepared (including myself) becausethe deployment was rampped up. Take advantage. There have been cutbacks on funding, but if you're worth it, your unit will invest in you.

Stop by your S3 and see what they got listed. Otherwise, you can set your status to volunteer in your US Army HRC OMPF.

SGT (Join to see) - When you log onto your HRC profile (through the HRC website, of course), and you are staring at a screen that has all your info, there is an option in a box on the left that says "Volunteer," you click on that then you will see 2 boxes dead center (and a little elevated). There in the second box is "Volunteer Status." You click that and you will see that you can change your status to Volunteer. What this does is put your name, rank and MOS on a list of people able to/wanting to deploy. Then, if a unit that is going on the ramp needs your rank and your MOS, they can choose to pick you or not. Not guaranteeing your name will be picked, but at least you have your name out there.
