Pacific Architects and Engineers (PA&E) were a major contractor for various kinds of infrastructure services in RVN. In our neck of the woods the title of this query was the most common name for this operation, based upon the perceived quality and responsiveness of their services.

I would be interested to hear candid (but perhaps expurgated) recounts from my fellow combatants of their experiences with civilian contractors.

I work with civilian contractors all the time, most are retired military or at least served in the military and are very familiar with what we need and go through. I know there is always some sort of cronyism and corruption in many cases, in my experience many are doing an outstanding job.

PA&E consisted mainly of alcoholics and sub-standard individuals that had no business being paid for their services. Our power at Base Camps (Camp Radcliff and Camp Enari) was daisy chained together and you couldn't find one of these guys when you needed them unless you went into the "Vil" and looked in all of the bars and massage parlors (Steam & Cream). Sorry, but that is the impression that I got from 67' - 70'.

So at least the situation was completely stable by the time I was there, '70 - '71.
