TOP 5 WAYS TO STAY IN THE FIGHT, FOLLOWING MILITARY SERVICE, excerpted from Veteran Field Manual: Civilian Life 1-1 by Todd Kuikka:

1) Do not isolate! You never completed ANY military objective alone; post-service civilian life should be no different. Veterans are never alone--so don’t hide in your basement or in a bottle when others understand and have been through the same things.
2) Slow down! You’re used to doing 160MPH but now you’re approaching a crowded inner city with a lot of distractions. Take a breath and actually appreciate the down time.
3) Find your new team! Your objectives have changed, but your tactics don't have to. Staying in touch and engaged with those you support and those who support you gives you purpose...family, friends, church, work, and community give you the opportunity to continue serving and they need you just as much as you need them.
4) Ask for help! Team members who asked questions and sought guidance usually made better team leaders. Find the right answer, not the good-enough fix. Band-aids don't fix broken legs!
5) Simmer down! You have more than the Uncle Sam-issued emotions, and the feelings of “Hungry, Happy, Horny, or Pissed Off”

These very important subjects and several other veteran topics are discussed at length in Veteran Field Manual: Civilian Life 1-1. Hit the ground prepared to combat the struggles in reintegrating back into civilian life following military service. Our veteran suicide rates are an epidemic that is shaking our very foundation. You can become part of a life-changing team that takes care of our veterans and military families that struggle with “returning home” after military service. Your support of Veteran Field Manual: Civilian Life 1-1. Will get this resource printed and into the hands of those it would most benefit.
