For those with a child in the military, has your perception of things changed since they enlisted?

As my son recently enlisted I thought I would solicit opinions from others who may also have a child serving. Not looking for a support group here, just any thoughts that may have popped into your head after they moved out to do great things for our military. Do you see things through the same lens now that you did prior? Does policy matter more now that it doesn't (directly) affect only you?

Two of my sons have enlisted. It opened my eyes up to the fact that there is hazing (a lot of hazing) still amongst our force which gave me a different perspective walking through the formation and the unit areas.
