From CrossFit to SoulCycle, the concept of boutique fitness is booming, often at the expense of big-box gyms. Fueling their popularity is an ongoing transition in societal and cultural trends led by affluent millennials. In the past, the ideal body was a status symbol that one acquired by hiring a personal trainer and nutritionist. With the proliferation of social media platforms, there has been a shift towards group fitness and communal classes. Amongst boutique fitness companies, SoulCycle has taken center stage following its announced plans to conduct its IPO. Besides offering fitness classes, SoulCycle’s growth is owed to brand loyalty and its profound social media presence.

As SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" None of the above. Moving to Planet Fitnes would hold back my progress, seriously. Pizza nights? Tootsie rolls? Lunk alarms? Heaviest dumbell is 50lbs! If you're really into fitness, as appealing the name would sound, Planet Fitness is not the best option. As for Soul Cycle, I've never heard about it and, trust me, I read a lot about fitness. Last thing I did, spinning talking now, I got a spin bike for my wife. Really girly so I don't use it, hehehe.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - Women love Spinning because it is a great cardio workout and works their Abs, Thighs, Calves, and Butts....or lower body.. Youc can lose from 700 - 900 calories in one hour if you are really into spinning but may be mostly liquids..????

SGT(P) (Join to see) sadly, everytime I see stationary bike now, I am reminded of the scene in "Here Comes The Boom" with Bas Ruten teaching at the gym.

I'm a long ways off, but this is the version of me I want to be in the gym. Can't get this at Planet Fitness, where everyone's afraid of being judged. LA Fitness is ok, but my personal trainer is the bomb and challenging so it keeps me coming back.

SSG Warren Swan - no offense was taken. It is like any other major chain, it is going to depend on the location. Good location, good staff, good equipment condition, good experience. Bad location, bad staff, bad equipment condition, bad experience

SSG Warren Swan I'm 100% with you and I understand what PO3 Steven Sherrill says about PF. At the end, doesn't matter where you train as long as you don't do this...

Sgt Tom Cunnally - Part of what I like about PF, they have a trainer on staff. It is included with membership dues. I had a meeting with him, and set up a training plan that augmented the plan I was already using.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - Don't forget to cut down on the calories or you may be disappointed after working out for a few months..

Sgt Tom Cunnally - That is the hardest part of all. Beating the physical hurdles is easy. Beating the mental hurdles that say "Fuck the salad, get that bacon double cheese burger with fries and a shake!" that is the never-ending battle. That is the battle that is fought day to day, meal to meal, and will not end for the rest of time on Earth.
