So there is rumor that the unit I currently am with will be shutting down. I've only been at fort Leonard Wood for a little over 4 month and just got engaged to my fiancée who is also stationed here. I would love to stay here seeing as I'm a MP I assume it will be easier than I am making it seem. I would like to know if there is anything I can do on my end besides express to my leadership my situation. Anything will help. Thank you

Walk into the First Sargent's office and tell him there is no way you are staying at Ft. Leonard Wood. It is a guarantee that you will be there for at least another 4 years.

That would definitely be the case if he was in the Air Force (by brother tried that in Kansas).

SSG (Join to see) There are many options at your disposal if your unit is deactivating. First get confirmation. 2nd start looking for multiple units/positions that you would like to go to on Fort Leonard Wood. Next make sure your leadership is informed and then start talking to the other units leadership about unfilled positions. If you find a unit and position you have a couple of options at this point. One option is to do a letter of acceptance and letter of release from the gaining and losing CSMs, through the S1 channels. 2nd option is to make contact with your branch chief at HRC and explain the situation and see what they can do for you. Risk with option two is if you have been at Ft LW for a while you've just put yourself on their RADAR and are now susceptible to being put on assignment to another location, regardless of your personal situation. If there is available opportunity at Ft LW it could be explained to branch that it is fiscally more responsible to do and inter-post reassignment as apposed to PCSing you to another location. If you need any assistance working this I am available to assist.

Why don't you just call SFC Knight, your assignment manager in the MP Branch? That will pay off far more than going the long way around.

ACT doesn't show you vacancies, it shows all positions and EDAS is dangerous without context. Your S1 can see information, but odds are that they don't have the supporting data to provide you with full clarity. Call branch.

SGM Barbieri, I was actully going to contact SSG Ledbetter and try to get ahold of you again. I had spoken to SFC Knight and the response I recieve was until my unit is on orders there isn't much he can do. The unit is going to disbaned. Its going to happen and I am doing everything within my limits now to prevent myself from coming on orders to another installation. Seeing as he is unable to doing anything until then I was trying to do things now until then. I haven't been on station long enough to drop a recruiter packet and they MP corps is still not taking SGT's.

SSG (Join to see) - I agree with you. It's only a matter of when, not if. You have done the important part and have let the right folks know what your intent is. That is half the battle. Stay in contact as more info comes out.
