Did you pay more or less in 2013?  My family received a refund last year and ended up owing $750 this year.  Granted, we had increased income and I was pleased that I ended up having to pay more rather than give the government an interest free loan for a year.  I wanted to know if you have any tax tips that I may have missed.

I still paid more than when I was in the military - a lesson for everyone who transitions out.  You have to make some big adjustments in order to compensate for the huge amount of non-taxable income.

Very true!  We experienced the same thing on retirement.  Just another one of those things that I should have realized, but just didn't think about.
