Hyman G. Rickover, 'father' of the US nuclear navy (1984 interview).
Hyman G. Rickover is regarded as the "father" of the US Nuclear Navy... Born in Poland in 1900, he emigrated (with his family) to the United States in 1906.....

Yup - he threw me out of his office after about 10 seconds because my grades weren't good enough...
And all the stories about him are true...
BTW, his successor, Adm McKee accepted me into the program, and the rest, as they say, is history.

They all were, although DeMars was nice to me once...
Some of the Ol' Timers should know this man. As I understand, he used to sit on the review board for every young officer applying to the Nuke-Navy program. He's a legend to the nuke community.

We were told that he personally interviewed every nuclear officer candidate. He supposedly had a special chair in his office whose front legs were two inches shorter than the rear legs to see how the officers dealt with stress while he grilled them. As an aside, one of my favorite military books was "Blow Negative" - reputedly his unofficial biography.
