How about asking "Have they ever left"? It's well known that Russia has supported Assad as a way to maintain their sphere of influence over there. Now with the US taking a more "proactive" role in the ME, it makes sense that Russia would make a "show of force/support" to Assad to bolster their interests and get the world off their case for the Ukraine. Smoke and Mirrors.

Oil is power, and if you don't have to play the PC game to get it, you will have the power.

Da,
Vlad and Assad are bromancing again, trying to bolster each others sphere of influence in a part of the world normal people would like to forget about. The problem is you have a pyromaniac and a madman teaming up near a powder keg.
