SFC Kenneth Hunnell I think this is a wonderful question but you got something wrong, President George Washington was not elected by the people either his position as president was the result of a congressional vote in which 69 ballots were cast in his favor.

I can definitely tell you who was not elected. That would be Gerald Ford.
He was selected as a replacement as vice president for Richard Nixon, then when Nixon resigned, he became President

I have been arguing for the last 20 ears that no matter who the popular candidate has been, our votes do not matter. It is enough to make me not want to ever vote again.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_presidential_elections_by_popular_vote_margin

Timeline at bottom shows the complete list. Reagan had sizable lead. Bush senior had marginal lead.

George Washington and John Adams isn't on the list in any way.
John Adams was the Politician and George Washington was the one that won the most important battle of the Revolutionary War, the last one. The winning of the War is the factor that made George Washington "The first President of The United States".
