For those of us who transition out of Active Duty. How reliable do you find USA JOBS, Hero 2 Hired, Military Hire, Recruit Militaty, etc. for employment?

I found that TAPs is helpful, but missing some elements to help make getting employed a little quicker.

They are all long and time consuming. If a veteran has 30%+, the best way to try and get in the door is with 30% direct hire for federal government. Where you don't have to wait for a posting on USA job posting.

But they are good resources with good tips

I agree that they have good resources, but found the response rate to submissions less than desirable.

My career counselor from the VA helped me get a faster head start by using indeed.com.
The drawback has been with a drop in the type of work desired.

What would be helpful, is if cross transfer with credentials were made available. Such as security certification for infantry, as an example.

Right now it's super SUPER slow. End of 3rd quarter and start of 4th quarter budget crunches going on. We have slots to fill. No money to fill them. Oh, government problems. you will see a lot more selections made and more posting around the end of September and October. and the Speed of Hire is quicker is faster (about 45-60 days depending in agency) from day position is approved by Management to employ start date.

Getting more real life experience. I went through TAPS that was taught by a 29 year old instructor. What am I going to learn from her, she had been out of college maybe 5-6 years. I learned more from the guy at my table who had his resumes to read and had 4-5 interviews already. He explained the whole process and how he got the interview and what happened during the interview. They need to bring back Vets who have made the transition and explain the process to us. Not some 29 year old contractor who is reading us mandated slides.

I would suggest more Veteran Affairs classes dealing with compensation and pension exams. It's very important in your post Military life.
