If I decide to switch from reserve duty to active duty - how long is the process supposed to take? Is it a good idea for a 73A? Can the professional take longer than expected and is it worth it to wait even if I prefer active duty?

If you enlist and complete all required training into the reserves, you will require a conditional release.
If you go active duty, there is still the chance that you are low on the OML and get assigned as a reserve or NG officer. Are you applying for a direct commission program? or just want to be a 73A? If you aren't applying for a direct commission, you will need to attend OCS and at that point, you will provide branch preferences, and depended on how you do, you will be respectively placed in a branch.
