Ok I would like to start a discussion here, how do you make your coffee when out in the field? Personally I use my MSR Whisperlight backpacking stove to heat up water for my coffee and shave with. Folgers makes the instant singles. So how do you make yours?

I was looking at a jet boil, does the french press stand up to the rigors?

MSG (Join to see) yes it does. The only downside to the jetboil is the availability of fuel while deployed. It's a high pressure gas canister, that can't be shipped. But when going to the field, I was able to bring plenty to get me through.

Jetboil and french press is the best way. If you find yourself with out a canisters, like I did a few times, I used my metal canteen cup to heat up some water over an open flame.

I was Marine infantry. More often than not, I dipped it like skoal; Or threw it in a canteen cup and drank it cold. All my time in the field, I am quite positive I didn't have time to heat my MRE more than a dozen times. Some of this was because our Company GySgt was a goldurned genius. If he thought there was going be time to heat an MRE, he made sure there was hot chow in vat cans, at least hot wets.

If and when it was field safe/possible- heat tab, or pack stove and army coffee ration.
