How Do You Feel About Non-Military Reporters Claiming That They Received "PTSD" From An Event?

A few years ago, it was reporter Gersh Kuntzman, who claimed that he received "PTSD" from firing an AR-15 on a rifle range. On July 19 of 2024 a White House staff member, Keisha Lance, stated that she got "PTSD" from hearing a speech by Donald Trump.

I have 22 years in the military, with a tour in Vietnam, and I can pretty-well handle the anxiety in my life, but I think that saying such things, especially for political purposes, really shows a narcissistic disrespect for those persons who have sacrificed a chunk of their lives in combat or emergency situations, seen & experienced horrific things, and are continuing that sacrifice by needing to make a constant effort to keep those "demons" from controlling their lives.

What are your thoughts?

I believe that your point was respectful, but I was a cop for 22 years, and being the first man in the door on over 50 drug raids, seeing a kid dead from his head crushed by machinery, and numerous other calls might have affected my computer, also. But I was specifically addressing veterans, because we probably have the largest condensed per capita amount of folks with different degrees of PTSD - - and also, this is a veterans' forum.

I would buy that Evan Wright and Sebastian Junger could suffer from PTSD, but being on a firing range or listening to a speech just makes a whiner.

As per my extensive clinical research on combat trauma, vicarious trauma occurs. Read Shooting Ghosts composed by Thomas J Brennan and Finbarr O'Reilly. The former is a combatant and the latter is a photojournalist. It is one of my clinical research sources.
