SSG (Join to see). I have been on boards, but I am not so current, and not an expert. I would never recommend a letter to the president of the board. They generally are perceived in a more negative sense then positive. I am deferring to CSM Michael J. Uhlig

Not sure exactly how your timing on NCOERs jives with your boards cut off date. I wrote letters to the board for my last two promotions. Usually I wrote. to explain a small discrepancy in the records(i.e. Explain why I had a 2nd award on a ribbon but maybe it was only reflected in my DD214 but the 638 was not yet filed or the reason behind a branch device even though I was competing for a different branh. Never write a letter to the board bad mouthing a person or process). Taking the time to write a brief letter lets the board know your interested

NO! You will blow your chances of getting promoted. Just make sure all your shit and you photo is straight brother. I know. I used to be just like you until CSM sat my ass down an told me the real deal. I don't know how long you have left in the service but it don't mater how much school or combat operations you got or time as Platoon Sergeant you have, if it is your time its your time. Explain. MY friend has 5 combat tours 27 years in and fully decorated two BS and PH and all great NCOER, he worked at the CSMA at Fort Bliss for 3 yrs. asked to say one year to completed his degree and got passed over for SGM twice. go figure. Now he is Operations SGM and he is MSG. Now he is retiring because he is at RCP. that's BS. Good luck on board brother. Think about it. That's truth, read my bio.
