I was recently in the Army as a 14T and will be coming back in. Looking to do 31B but curious to know how the AIT is, any different from IET?

I disagree with some of the comments. You just have to do your research. Some states, like NC, don't require you to go through the entire police academy if you want to become a cop after being an MP. They accept the MP academy.....only thing you have to do is attend a 90 hour course pertaining to that state's/county laws

100% agree with MAJ Bruce Burch! STAY AWAY!!! I’m finally reclassing after 10 years and I’m not looking back. Aside from my last assignment (PSD in Miami) I hated (still hate) being an MP. You’re worked to death if you’re not an E7 (sometimes E6) and above. And at the end of the day it’s all for nothing. Doesn’t usually do anything for you afterwards.
If you want to do law enforcement when you get out, that’s fine. Do something different in the Army that will at least transfer over if you decide to go a different path. Don’t waste your time just to have some medals when you get out that mean nothing in the civilian world. Anything technical is great to have.

RUN FORREST RUN!!!!!!!! I was forced to reclass as 31A from 14E. Being an MP sucks ass and doesn't translate well into civilian world (as mentioned, even if you want to be a cop, you'll still have to do police academy and other training). I went to Logistics school to get 90A qualified as soon as I could. Plenty of civilian jobs where a supply/logistics MOS will get you in the door.

Thank you, sir. I assume the MOS 88N would be a good job for transitioning?

SPC Cordel St.amant - If you are a hands on kind of guy, 21E (heavy equipment operator) would be good. My youngest son just got certified and walked out the door into a $30/hr job. If you don't mind travel and doing short term (1-2 months at a time) work, you can make up to $60/hr plus per diem as a crane operator. 12T (technical engineer) is good as well. I just know that 31B is a thankless job with long hours, tons of paperwork, dealing with stupid people and the best you can hope for when you get out is to get a job as a cop making $35K a year.
