Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen, on Sunday, off the coast of the southern and northern besieged Gaza Strip.
Locals told Ma’an that Israeli naval forces repeatedly opened heavy fire towards Palestinian fishermen in southern and northern Gaza, forcing fishing boats to sail back to shore.
No injuries were reported from the incidents.
The Israeli army regularly detains and opens fire on unarmed Palestinian fishermen, shepherds, and farmers along the border areas if they approach the unilaterally declared buffer zone.
Israeli human rights group B'Tselem recently concluded that Israel's Gaza closure and "harassment of fishermen" have been "destroying Gaza's fishing sector," with 95% of fishermen living below the poverty line.

heavy fire? If that was correctly defined, was Israeli gunnery so poor that everyone somehow got back to port safely?
Understand about the economic hardship this mess causes everyone but given the number of 'innocent fishing boats' landing/trying to land raiders onto Israel proper and smuggling in munitions/weapons into the Strip I don't see what options there are for the Israeli Navy. Ditto for the buffer zone. That true innocents are suffering is nothing new to the region given as they are just pawns for the various anti Israeli groups there.
Hamas has a huge share of the blame here by not controlling it's own people, the PLA was no saint but at least they had a clue how to balance their rule in Gaza w/the common sense of not pissing off the people next door who provided the bulk of the economic activity, electrical power and medical care.

Sometimes you just have to get rid of old weapon stocks? I would bet the Israeli Navy had a reason.
