Hello , my spouse just joined the army and he took a proof of marriage but not the actual certificate, they want the actual certificate so I gave it to his recruiter he uploaded it on his file but he said my spouse has to as his drill sergeant for permission to go to get that fixed , but my spouse said he was told he can’t and had to wait for AIT , I sent him the original certificate through the mail because his recruiter told me to hoping if he tell him he has it with him they send him to get it done but my spouse thinks even like that he won’t be able to , how long does the process take if he waits for AIt will I still be in his orders ? It’s so confusing.

Did the Recruiter mean they uploaded it into your husband's recruit file or his official personnel file? there is a difference.

If the case is that your marriage certificate is not populating into the official personnel file, then yes your husband will need to ask permission from the Drill Sergeants to be taken to the S1 (Administration/Personnel Actions) Office at Reception to get that changed/fixed in the official file. The reason is that, while it may not take very long, although there is other documents that will have to be filled out/updated (such as the Basic Allowance for Housing form), going to S1 will take time away from the training schedule; the Drill Sergeants and the Trainees are on a tight training schedule. There are certain training tasks that HAVE to be met.

If your husband has to wait until AIT (which is very possible), it will not be a deal breaker for you being on the orders as he will have to In-Process at AIT as well (especially if his AIT is on a different base than Basic Training). The reason is that your husband will not receive follow-on orders until he nears the end of AIT.

As for how long the process takes, it could take (honestly) no more than 45 minutes once he sits with someone. The issue is how long the wait at the S1 is before he can sit with someone. That could be an hour (or more).

He said it was uploaded to the file where in reception they can already see it if they review it but my spouse has to go up and do the rest but his drill sergeant said he can do it once he arrives to AIT since he will be attending a different base, I was just wondering it it would be a longer process, they have everything else the only thing missing was the original copy.

Thank you so much for responding it was very helpful.
