I fear some of these "immigrants" are going to attempt to use weapons to remain in country. Using regular LEO really isn't an option.

It is not going to happen. Our military can decline and order they deem illegal and/or immoral.

He absolutely should if the language of some state governors/city mayors continues and evolves into continued actions (or inactions) on their part to obstruct Federal law. The Act allows for the following:
"To address an insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination or conspiracy, in any state, which results in the deprivation of constitutionally secured rights, and where the state is unable, fails, or refuses to protect said rights"
Right now, we have these examples of posturing against the impending lawful actions of our ICE enforcement personnel:

Toward that end, the military does not necessarily have to perform the actual enforcement actions (unless the resistance by state/local leaders escalates), but they could be used for supporting roles, such as logistics, transportation, and temporary detention centers. The American people have spoken and have expressed their support to have illegal immigrant removed along with a more secure border.
