I posted a "Dear John," Story the other day. That made me go back and look at one of the few pictures of my first girl. I only have three of them. My Kathy, kept them in a scrapbook for me. I asked her why she saved those pictures. She said: "It was your life, Kevin. All of it belongs in your scrapbook. Besides, you have never said a bad word about her, so she must have been a good kid."
Yeah, my Kathy is one of a kind. I could have kissed her for her kindness...so I did!
So here is a picture of two young people, looking out at an unknown future. One just barely out of HS, the other starting his second year in the Army. I think it is a good picture. I think the second one is better.
The second one is Kathy and I visiting her friends in another town. Those folks loved my Kathy so much, that they actually made us a Wedding Cake! We had been married all of two weeks, when we drove the 100 miles away to get to the Town. She knew everyone there from her Church. I didn't know a soul. So I was a bit out of place. You can't quite see it, but Kathy is holding my hand. And that settled me down. It always has. I was amazed that so many people could love my Kathy. I am autistic and don't tend to join groups, or have large numbers of people that care about me. Once her hand holds mine, I can deal with whatever happens.
So two different women, two different times in my life. One heartbreak. One healed heart. My old girl went on to an almost fifty year marriage, and Kathy and I are hitting 44 this September...all is well that ends well.
