I am on the verge of ETSing on Jan 1 2022 and I have 120 days of leave. I am reading the regulation that I can only sell back 60 days. Is this true? If it is would it be better to get with retention and extend four months to get paid for all 120 days? I also have an internship for the last 6 months of my contract which means I will not be using any leave days. What should I do and is the information I am receiving correct? I was even told that I have to take my leave that I have. Which is the better option?

Why sell it? Take the leave. Take 30 before October so you don't lose the time and then take the remainder of it , factoring in additional accrual, at the end of your time right before you ETS. That way you get all of what you are allotted money wise and none of it goes to waste and you can then transition smoothly into your internship.

I would love to but my unit is spread so thin there is not the ability to take my days. Every year that I have been in the army I have lost days due to "being needed". Then when I lose leave days nothing is said or done to fix it. One of the many reason why I am not staying in.

SSG (Join to see) - Ok. This is your unit not taking care of you and you losing time due to their screw up. You need to take this above their heads. It's one thing if you hoard days and do not take them and are forced into a situation. Totally another if you are denied the days through no fault of your own.

Work your way up the chain above your CO if necessary. No individual is indispensable for extended periods of time. Take what you can now to prevent losing it, then terminal leave and get paid for what's left. Denying you the opportunity to take leave is the same as taking the money out of your pocket.
Both you and the government are bound by your enlistment contract.

You'll have to figure out what works best for your internship in your own. It's true you can only sell a total of 60 days over the course of your career. You can sell them when you are discharged which is when you reenlist, during an extension, and when you ETS or retire.
Other factors to consider are that your Lose/Use leave balance will be lost in October and your COVID Special Leave accrual will not continue to accrue special leave this fiscal year. Meaning you probably will not have 120 days at your ETS.

The internship has to be 6 months out for the education I have. So selling back the leave days is my only option. I do understand that as soon as October hits I will be back to 90 days (which stinks) but my unit will not allow me any extra time off. The internship is most important. I know I will not get a lot back for selling leave days but thats my only option other than extending.

1, Get with Retention & S1. You use to be able to sell 60 days leave at ETS, id fo then why don't you take the other 60day as an ETS Lv, and check into civie world 60 days early?
