What would you have added? It's a good article, but it's missing many of the nuances of the training experience. For example, what was your feeling when you saw Stairway to Heaven after 10 miles+ into the final road march?

SFC Chad Sowash It looks like it would be a good read but when clicked on I see the dreaded 404 code.

AIT for me was spent at the Tigerland Army base, formally known as Fort Polk in Louisiana and currently known as Fort Johnson. The training environment was deliberately challenging to prepare soldiers for the psychological and physical demands of combat minus the leaches. SFC Chad Sowash

As I probably mentioned ad nauseum I was an instructor at the formerly named Ft.Polk after my tour in Vietnam, the Army did try to have that Southeast Asian feel, minus of course the leeches,Came pretty close with snakes, swamps, mosquitoes, rain, close but definitely bush league on those,we then young NCOS tried our best because we knew where our young Brothers were going, been an on going guilt trip for me,looking back, did I really do my best? could I have been more effective as a leader?something this now old grunt thinks about, mixed with my memories of Vietnam, Welcome Home Brothers.

I remember hopping into the back of a deuce and a half after graduation, then checking in to jump school and getting smoked out of the gate by the black hats lol.
